Whatever year. I just want to get an idea of what the sticker price would be for a brand new Corvette back then. Just the average price.

Gm\’s New Regional Premium Brands Director and New Super Car Challenge
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
General Motors has recently announced their newly appointed regional premium brands director. Mohammed Hmeid was chosen as the new premium brands editor and expected to bring some fresh ideas and perspective in marketing the different brands of the automaker.
Hmeid joins General Motors in early 2006 and previously held a position as product and portfolio planning manager & new business development. While at the position he acted as the key representative for the Middle East and was in charge of product planning, business and organization as well as managing different types of product portfolio which includes leading and managing the Armoured Vehicle project sales, aftersales and marketing through effective implementation.
Hmeid in his new role as regional premium brands director, he will be responsible for various marketing activities, aftersales and dealer support of various GM brands like Cadillac, Saab and HUMMER. For this year his main focus is to effectively re-launch the Saab brand in the region. He will also make sure that customers will be able to get the ultimate ownership experience out from owning Cadillac, Saab and HUMMER. He is also to focus on expanding the business by taking every available opportunity there is for growth.
Terry Johnson, Managing Director of GM in the Middle East has expressed her gladness in the appointment of Hmeid. She said, “I am very pleased to welcome Mohammed to this new position. His rich background will help grow the Premium Brands business. He is results driven and has great diverse business knowledge with propensity to explore new opportunities and translate them into unique concepts and consumer offerings.”
Before joining General Motors Hmeid was the brand manager at British American Tobacco and has also held the same position in BMW Group Middle East. “It is a great time to be working on these exciting brands and to be able to play a part in their growth,” said Hmeid.
Hmeid has replaced Chase Hawkins who was the regional division marketing director for Premium Brands from 2005 to 2006 and transferred recently to South Africa to occupy the same position of sales director at GM South Africa.
In other GM news: General Motors has accepted the Dodge Viper challenge. According to Chairman Bob Lutz, the new 600 horsepower 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 won’t be keeping its title as the king-of-the-road for long once GM releases its Corvette Blue Devil which is said to be the automaker’s next generation super sports car.
“As you all know, it is not our policy to discuss future product programs. However…,” he said to humor the audience, “it is very important for Corvette to be the most powerful, most capable, best handling sports car in the United States.” And of course in order to make the Corvette Blue Devil to become the super sports car it needs quality auto parts, the best that General Motors can produce. Come to think of it, GM has always been a leader when it comes to production of top-of-the-line car parts and an example of which is its line of GM fender flares which are popular for their quality and durability.
Lutz has also acknowledged that the top-level horsepower of GM’s Corvette was surpassed by a recent competitor but quickly added “the Corvette vehicle line executive will not take that lying down.”
According to Bob Gitzinger, Senior Editor for news at AutoWeek magazine, Chevrolet is developing a Corvette that is known in several names: the Blue Devil, Stingray, Devil Ray or SS. “We all know the new Corvette is out there. The car is in development and it’s been speculated that it will have about 650 horsepower…It’s supposed to be here in 2009.”

Oh Thank you for the Car Bra and Great Corvette Accessories, Usa!
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
Three weeks ago I came to the USA and for the first time I saw one of the greatest countries in our big world. First I arrived in L.A. and a few hours later in San Diego. You have to know that I am from Germany and am doing an internship here in the U.S. Ok, let’s go on. I arrived in San Diego, as I mentioned, and after a while I saw a Corvette, which was really hot. But I noticed something was different about it. Come on I come from Germany. We know stuff like this. The design was the same, the engine sounded the same, but on the front of the hood there was a black cover, which I could not identify. A couple of seconds later a friend of mine asked me what I thought about this black thing and my answer was just, “I don’t know, but it looks very hot. I want to have it, no matter what it costs”. But there were just two problems. First I didn’t know where I could buy one and secondly I had no car, not to mention a Corvette. Of course not, but I knew I had to find a way to get a Car Bra.
Meanwhile I got to know the name of this black widget, while talking to an American about cars. At this point I had to be creative to get a car in order to get a Car Bra. So I called a car rental to get a Corvette. I told them I need a car to come around and I am credible. I think the reason, why I got the car immediately, was the fact that I am German and everyone knows that we know how to treat a beautiful car. But maybe it was just the fact that I gave them 1000 bucks for 2 days (Later a guy told me that I paid 800 bucks more than I had). The first problem was solved but knows I had to buy a Car Bra. In order to find a solution for the second problem I searched in the Internet for it. Just one minute later I ordered a Car Bra for my new Corvette at a company called AutoAnything and I told them I needed it as soon as possible. Remember, I have only had my car for two days. And it worked out. A few hours later I drove my Corvette in San Diego and in font of my car I was able to enjoy my new black and trendy Car Bra.
At this time I thought I am the king of the streets and no one can touch me. It was a short illusion. Two hours after I purchased the Car bra I got a call and the guy from the car rental place told me I had to give the car back within one hour because I’m 20 years old and have no insurance for the car. This is the end of one of the craziest stories of my life. The car was taken away and the Car Bra as well because they promised if I leave the Bra at the Corvette I would get the 1000 bucks back. Of course I did it. I had to buy a new car. No Corvette for sure, but another one for a price around 1000 bucks. I just had to have an opportunity to use a Car Bra!

Benefits of Joining a Corvette Club
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
When my husband and I joined a Corvette club after buying a Corvette, some of our friends rolled their eyes. They thought it was bit corny and that we’d be out of element. Boy they were wrong. Joining a Corvette club is something every Corvette owner should do.
Being in a Corvette club is more than just attending obligatory meetings every other week or once a month. It’s a chance for camaraderie, a time to come together with like minded people, it’s an excuse leave behind the dirty dishes behind to go to events, and a chance to grow closer to a spouse.
Because of our car and the Club we joined, I have been to places I’ve never been to, I’ve made memories on sunny Saturday afternoons at local events, and have had the opportunity to evaluate some pretty hot Corvettes as a judge at an event my Club sponsored. And we’ve made some pretty good friends, including a couple I hold dear to my heart.
Why can you get out of it? Benefits of joining a Corvette Club:
- Make new friends to spend time with during club events and other social outings.
- Visit local attractions
- Take day trips
- Take week long vacations together
- If you own your own business, a connection with a club is a great way to network, particularly if you can provide a service the club can use.
- Gain valuable information on how to service, enhance or maintain your car.
- Find buyers for your Corvette, parts or accessories.
- Connect with those selling their ‘Vettes for an opportunity to find a car in decent shape.
- Participate in charity events to help your local community.
- Make a difference by organizing events for your club, giving you something positive to spend your energies on.
So are you sold yet? What do you have to do to join a Corvette Club? It’s easy.
- Find a Corvette Club of interest in your area. I’d recommend picking only one. Joining two or more questions your loyalty the first club you joined.
- Each club has different rules for becoming a member, but usually they like you to attend about three meetings, events, or a combination of both to show you truly are interested in attending.
- Once the club votes you in, pay their reasonable annual membership fee (my club asks for $25 a year for my husband and I)
- Attend events, make new friends, and have fun!
So how do you find a Corvette club to join?
- Well, it’s easy. Here are a few suggestions on how to find a local Corvette Club:
- Ask around at places that would be involved with Corvette clubs, such as Chevrolet dealerships who often sponsor the clubs.
- Ask your local Chamber of Commerce.
- Talk to the National Corvette Museum who has partnerships with Corvette clubs across the world.
- Talk to the National Council of Corvette Clubs, one of the oldest clubs in the nation who has many relationships with Corvette clubs across the U.S.
- Check online. There are many places on the internet to connect with your local Corvette Club. Visit the Corvette Forum under the “Tools” section (http://www.corvetteforum.com), Club Corvette (http://www.clubcorvette.com/main.asp), Corvette Club Listing (http://www.idavette.net/clubs.htm) for starters.

As a pilot would you rather own a Corvette or a 911? As a pilot what do you drive on land?
Filed Under corvette | 5 Comments
I am a real fan of the Porsche 911; great re-sell value. But the Corvette is easier to repair.
What do you drive from home to the airport?
Didn’y ruin my illusion. The three pilots that I know drive pick-ups and Blazers.
Pilots tend to be “down-to-earth” and practical.
