What is the value of a 76 corvette, no motor, that needs a paint job?
Filed Under corvette | 2 Comments
When my husband passed away he left behind a 76 Corvette Stingray, he planned on restoring it but unfortunately didn’t get far. It has no motor, needs new paint, tires, and interior needs redone. Now I am wanting to get rid of it but have no idea what it might be worth, if anything. I thought it might make a good project for someone and I just hate seeing it just sitting there collecting dust. Any suggestions?

‘practice Pays Off’ – Corvette Racing
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
Corvette Racing etched a good name series. This is because of one thing - PRACTICE. Rigorous practice makes the team one of the most sought-after in today’s time. Despite little outside competition for the team, Corvette Racing has taken the early portion of this year’s season to test every aspect of the cars in preparation for the Le Mans, France race as well as the world’s premier endurance race.
The most famous car race in the world will include highly-sophisticated sports cars with the 15 competitors in GT1, including five Corvettes. The 2007 Le Mans race entertained both an upgrade in quality and an increase in quantity. “We think we’ll win for the fourth time at Le Mans because we have the best team. They know the car inside and out,” said Oliver Gavin of Corvette Racing. “The crew will be well-drilled.”
Corvette Racing has known all along that the upcoming race will be stiff with rivals from Aston Martin, Saleen and other Corvettes. Preparation is paramount and the team has taken the five races in the American Le Mans Series season to fine tune the elements of the team.
“Aston Martin will be there and we beat them last year. Everyone is waiting for that,” said Olivier Beretta. “It’s difficult to know what the other competition is like at Le Mans. We have very good preparation and have a very good team with Michelin.”
From the beginning of the season, the drivers of the Corvettes have flaunted their excellence as the two C6.Rs fought for the top spot in every race. “It was a very important day for us because it was the last practice before Le Mans,” said Beretta. “We had to finish with the car in one piece. We went through three street races without any accidents and now we’ve completed a successful Michelin tire test. We are ready to go to the big one now.”
“It was a perfectly executed race and we learned a tremendous amount. I think we’ve made a very good tire selection for Le Mans. The last compound we had on looked really good, so we’re excited about that. We’ll be as prepared as possible,” said Doug Fehan, the Corvette Racing program manager. With engines roaring, headlights shining bright, and hood left widely open, the pool of engineers significantly made improvements.
“Corvette has made a lot of improvements to the cars as far as driver cooling and driver comfort with the new cooling system and that should pay dividends in a 24-hour race,” said Johnny O’Connell. The improvements and the consistent testing have paid dividends for the team. Those efforts were apparent in the first test session at the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans.
“Some people wondered why we were racing in the American Le Mans Series even though we had little competition, and I think the test day result provides a clear answer,” said Fehan. “We’ve done a tremendous amount of work over the winter and early this season, and the testing that we’ve done with Michelin has been outstanding. The drivers, engineers and mechanics did another exceptional job, and that’s one of the reasons why Corvette Racing is successful.”
“When we look at things, this will probably be our most difficult Le Mans. Every year our cars have finished the race and finished on the podium. We won’t be the fastest but we’ll be the toughest,” concluded O’Connell.
The 75th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is scheduled for three in the afternoon CET on Saturday, June 16 from the Circuit de la Sarthe.

The History of the Corvette
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
During the post-war area, the design for the Corvette began in 1951 after General Motors’ chief stylist Harley Earl visits a Watkins Glen sports car race and becomes impressed with the foreign sports cars that watched in the race. His decision to create an American sports car, later to become known as the Corvette, earned him the name, “Father of the Corvette.”
A prototype was created in 1952, made of fiberglass with balsa wood floors, both of which the Corvette is still known for today. The light weight of the body was created to increase speed. Now that the car was taking shape, it needed a name. Myron Scott, then a member of the General Motors’ Public Relations department came up with “Corvette” which means Royal Navy Warship, representing strength, speed, and maneuverability.
With great anticipation, the Corvette first made its debut during the 1953 New York Motorama Show at the famous Walforf Astoria hotel ballroom. Little did the public know that General Motors’ employees were scrambling to replace the car’s logo just a few hours before the show. The original design sported a checkered racing flag crossed by a patriotic American flag. A member of the General Motors’ legal staff realized at the last minute that the American flag is copyright protected from commercial use and it had to be pulled quick. The Chevrolet “fleur de lis” was put in its place and no one ever knew the difference.
Despite the minor bump, the public responded well to the car and production began in a small, thrown together, assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, rolling off 300 Corvettes within a six month time frame. The sticker price at the time was only $3,000.
To keep costs down and to increase production time, all 300 Corvettes were created exactly the same. They were all Polo White with Sportsman Red vinyl interior and a black top. Most of the cars, surprisingly, were sold to celebrities and other highly visible personalities like town mayors and other public officials. This strategy was done as a marketing technique to get this sport car into the public’s eye.
Unfortunately, the cars launch didn’t take off so well. People were skeptical since it was pricey for its time and somewhat impractical being that it was a two-seater. Sales didn’t take off all that well and numerous times through the car’s history, it almost was yanked from General Motors line up. It was the people behind the car, though, that really fought for its existence, and thankfully, won.
Zora Arkus-Duntov was one of those people. He was hired early on in the life of the Corvette and become the Corvette’s Chief Engineer and known to some as the godfather of the Corvette. His experience and improvements to the car really improved its image. The car was a labor of love to him his entire life even after he retired in 1974. His ashes now remain on display at the National Corvette Museum, a final wish before he died, that’s how much he loved the car.
With Duntov’s influence and opening up sales to the general public, the car’s popularity began to take off. So much so, that production moved to St. Louis, MO, the second of only three places the Corvette would made in its history.
Seven generations or body styles later, Corvettes are now made in Bowling Green, KY, known as the “Home of the Corvette.” Between the Assembly Plant and The National Corvette Museum across the street, the two have created a network of Corvette lovers, helping to increase sales and the car’s popularity. It looks the American Sports Car is here to stay.

The Ultimate Corvette: the Z06
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
What is a Corvette?
This monster of a subcompact hatchback has been raising hell in city streets and open highways since Chevrolet introduced it to the public. It has become a legend on its own, and improving such a thing of beauty may pose a challenge to even the craftiest engineers.
But Chevrolet has no intention of just stopping with what they have. It must have been a welcome challenge for what they have done to the new model of the Corvette Z06 is simply genius. The company has again raised the bar not only for their competition but for them as well in releasing the newest edition of the Corvette Z06.
The latest Z06 is immediately noticeable as a Corvette, it has all the telltale signs of where it comes from, with the exterior designs just altered a little bit to exude more aggressiveness on its styling and to also lower the coefficient of drag.
All adjustments to the roof panel, floorpan and fender liners are to increase the rigidity of the structure of this unique Corvette. However, this is not to say that the original structure is weak, but the manufacturer just increased it to handle what extra power the engineers have bestowed on the car.
While it may look like other ‘Vettes, what is under the hood is what separates it from other models – the standard 6.0 liter LS2 V8 engine with a maximum output of 400 horsepower which all Corvette carries is not what the Z06 employs. Instead it carries a much meaner 7.0 liter, LS7 engine which gives a massive 505 horsepower at 6300 revolutions per minute and 470 lb.ft. of torque at 4800 revs. That is a whole lot of power and that makes the Z06 cut above the rest, following in the tradition of its predecessors.
Another thing that sets this car aside is that is not offered with an automatic transmission. If you want to drive it, you are going to have to do it manually which is the only way you can truly enjoy the driving experience of a car such as this. What transfers all those amazing mass of power to the wheels is a six-speed manual transaxle, meaning the transmission and the rear axle are integrated into one component. Doing this helps in weight distribution and in the entire stability and handling of the car.
With all the power and the fact that it can go from 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds, noise is one of the more prominent identifications of the car. All the noise and vibrations from engine though is no threat to the high performance Chevrolet parts in the entire car. Anyway, the noise of all those 505 horses is music to the ears of performance car enthusiasts. Anyone who has heard how a Corvette sounds like knows that well.
With a top speed of 198 mph and an awesome acceleration, this has got to have one of the most responsive braking systems. And of course, it has. It uses disc brakes on the front and rear wheels, 14 and 13.4 inches in diameter respectively. Calipers on the front are pushed by six pistons and four pistons on the rear brake calipers. It also uses an anti-lock braking system which features a “competition driving” mode. All these features designed to increase the safety of the driver, after all it is a Corvette and it is just like being strapped to a rocket and blasted at an astounding speed. And with the addition of more power and the improved design of the car, this rocket of a car would be much faster.

Buy Your Next Car Like the Professionals

The auto auction is where many used car dealers go to find deals for their company. This usually consists of the used car sales manager heading to the auto auction and buying the cars that he or she thinks will turn the biggest profit for their dealership. These auto auctions usually take place about once a week, and can be attended by only authorized car dealers. This is not the same as a car auction which can be attended by the general public. The main purpose of this sort of auto auction is to allow car dealers to buy and sell used cars for their lot.Buying used cars at an auto auction allows for the dealer to purchase a car at a very cheap amount and then turn it into a nice profit. These dealers know their limitations, and they know what they need to buy a car for at the auction in order to turn a reasonable profit at the dealership. There are many dealers that also sell their used cars at auto auctions. These dealers often sell cars that they can not move off of their lot for one reason or the next. Also, these dealers also practice taking trade ins to the auction to get rid of them for more money than they paid out. This is a great way for them to make some extra money off of the trade ins that they accept. An auto auction is an event that every car dealer has taken part in at one point in time, and probably will again sometime in the near future. This is one of the best ways for them to make money, and turn a large profit for their respective dealership. If you are authorized head to your local auto auction today and make some money! But there is something only few people know: there are now many auto auction sites online where everyone can auction a luxury car for peanuts. Every single month, thousands of cars become government or bank property through various seizure laws. Due to the fact that the expense to store them is enormous, these cars must be sold fast and cheap. You can buy direct from the sources and save tremendously. Savings of up to 90% off the regular retail price are not rare. If you are looking for a new or used European, Japanese, or American luxury car, such as an Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Hummer, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, or Roll-Royce the best auction site is http://www.bestluxuryautoauctions.com. You can bid on the car of your dreams or buy it outright. A buyer can also find the best prices on Acura, Lexus, Toyota, or Honda, by visiting auction sites.

The Old, New and Loved Chevrolet Corvette
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
General Motors manufactures Chevrolet Corvette in their Kentucky assembly plant. This car falls in the sports car category. Corvettes are either two door coupes or two door convertibles. Chevrolet Corvette is very similar to Dodge Viper and Ford GT.
Extremely powerful engines are one of the distinguishing features of this car. But though the engine packs power it is not complex. An overhead valve together with a larger displacement, usage of leaf springs in suspension makes Chevrolet Corvette what it is.
Other cars in the similar category are made with a much more complex engine. The cars are in many colors like sunset orange, silver grey. There have been many models of Chevrolet Corvette each better than the previous one.
Corvettes are very sophisticated cars, but they have a little history behind them. Corvette is a small fighting frigate and the car has taken its name from them. The naming has been done by a gentleman called Myron Scott.
Though now General Motors manufacture them in a very big way, the first car built in Flint, Michigan was practically hand made. From that first car the latest Chevrolet Corvette model unveiled in the last quarter of 2005, as a model for 2006, has indeed come a long way. General Motors have constantly strived to make the newer models a cut above the rest, but without any mind boggling complexities. In the niche market, Corvettes stand tall.
Owning a Chevrolet Corvette is a matter of pride. They are stylish and expensive. Only a true car connoisseur can really appreciate the beauty of a Corvette. Fuel economy is another attraction of a Corvette. The cars have become very popular especially with those who are somewhat adventurous and enjoy speed.
Dealers are able to guide the customer and Corvettes come with a thirty six month warranty. There is the benefit of insurance also. Corvettes offer a comfortable ride, but compared to other sports cars, there is less agility because of a light steering and its width. The interior of the 2006 model is an improvement on the earlier models.
There is a big market for used cars and with the advent of internet
buying and selling cars have become very easy and convenient. In fact getting the product details or information about new models is easy too. There are used car dealers and the prospective seller can contact them. But getting attached to Chevrolet Corvette is so easy, few think of getting rid of it.

Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
Floor mats for cars are made by cutting the desired materials to the size of your vehicle’s floor space. The basic mats feature embroidery and ribbing. Husk floor mats are best for heavy usage areas since they hold up well when subjected to lots of wear and tear. There are two types of car floor mats that you can choose between. There are the carpet floor mats which are good for luxury cars that don’t see much traffic. For example, you can get custom made cadillac floor mats with the cars logo. Then there are all weather floor mats which are made from durable and tough rubber to stand up against the most extreme weather conditions. Car Leasing Special: Hail to the Greatest Corvette Nomad!
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
It’s a car; it’s not a plane. It is Chevrolet Corvette Waldorf Nomad. The car which never got to production has toured as part of General Motor’s 1954 Motorama lineup.
The Waldorf was showcased in Goodguys Nationals meet held in Columbus, Ohio. Those who saw the station wagon rebuilt were heard exclaiming, “Dude, I don’t what that is, but it’s awesome!” and “Okay, I give up. What is it?”
GM is said to have no intention of producing this 1954 Commemorative Edition Station Wagon.
Steve Pasteiner, former Buick design chief, supported by his son Steven are the makers of the car. The car is offered by Advanced Automotive Technologies (AAT), a Rochester Hills, Michigan-based design company. It’s the same company that built the C5 Corvette-based 1953 Commemorative Edition convertible, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Corvette. When GM declined them after they asked it to deal the car , they offered it to the market on their own and since then they had delivered 175 units.
According to AAT, the remake is an offshoot of the 1953 project. The Waldorf Nomad is built on a 1997-2004 C5 Corvette coupe. This has been done by replacing the front with fiberglass body parts and the rear converted into a liftback station wagon. The same hinges, latches, and seals of the hatchback are used, only that the cover is squared off, as inspired by the Nomad.
There were other changes implemented on the recreation. The rear had the chrome strips down its back; the prominent tail lamps and side exit exhaust were carried over to the modern version. Its interior is basically C5, lending to its reliability and ease, only that AAT dipped the entire interior in torch red. The entire roofline and rear fascia were new moldings. The panel fit and finish are exceptional on the Commemorative Editions and the Sport Wagon. They were entirely created anew instead of reviving the parts of the original. The steering wheel and shifter/brake boots were courtesy of Vette Essentials.
To sum it up, it would cost $49,500 to convert. Added to that is the base C5 Corvette Coupe.
The original model of the car was rumored to be destroyed by General Motors during the early to late 50’s. The original Chevrolet Waldorf Nomad was first shown in Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, 1954. After receiving great reviews, the original Corvette-based car was produced as a full-sized 55 Chevy.

2009 Cadillac Cts-v to be Equipped With Corvette Engine
Filed Under corvette | Comments Off
In 2004, Cadillac came out with the high performance CTS-V to compete with European sport sedans. The car has been known for its high performance engine with a high power output. The CTS-V’s direct competitors are the BMW M3 and the M5 as well as the Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG and the E55 AMG. Since it is going up against some strong competition, it is a given that General Motors will improve its performance for future model years.
For the 2009 model year, there have been rumors in the auto industry that the CTS-V will be equipped with a supercharged engine. Speculations about the presence of a supercharger for the CTS-V came after photos of the prototype CTS-V came out. The hood of the prototype has a bulge which suggests that a supercharger was hidden somewhere under the hood of the car.
One speculation as to the powerplant of the 2009 CTS-V is that it is equipped with a supercharged variant of the 430-horsepower LS3 engine used in the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. While another claim is that aside from a supercharger, the engine is also equipped with a Cadillac cold air intake system.
Another theory is that the Cadillac CTS-V will be equipped with a tuned down version of the 700-hosrsepower LS7 engine which will be used on the Corvette Z07. This means that the Cadillac CTS-V may have an engine with a power output of just 600 hp.
According to Edmunds.com though, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V will not be supercharged but will use a Corvette engine just the same. The leading online source of auto information said that come 2008, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V will be introduced in the market equipped with a 7.0-liter naturally aspirated LS7 engine.
The said engine can produce as much as 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The said power output is expected to give a remarkable acceleration and a high top speed for the 3,800 pound car. According to Edmunds, the engine that will be used on the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V is similar to the ones used by BMW in the E63 AMG. The advantage that the Cadillac has on the BMW is that the E63 AMG weighs about 4,000 pounds.
Meanwhile, the relationship between Cadillac and the Corvette takes another step in promoting the brands by making an appearance at this year’s Motorexpo which will be held from the eleventh up to the seventeenth of this month. The event will be held at London’s Canary Wharf.
Among the vehicles that will be displayed at the event are the Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows Edition and the right hand drive Cadillac SRX. Joining these two vehicles is the other right hand drive Cadillac model which is the Cadillac BLS. A left hand drive Cadillac Escalade will also grace the event with its presence.
The Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows Edition car was designed to celebrate Ron Fellows’ contribution to the Corvette racing program. The said limited edition car is equipped with an LS7 V8 engine mated to a six-speed transmission. The power from the said engine propels the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds. It has a top speed of 199 miles per hour.
