I was wondering were I can get one and how much it would cost? Or if someone could tell me another engine I can get brand new maybe less expensive that will be mean and powerful? Noah Scott asked:

Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors will launch its Corvette Z06 at the Brisbane International Motor Show next month. The Z06 is hailed as the true American rival to the great sports cars of Europe. It is equipped with top-of-the-line GM accessories, a 7.0 liter V8 engine, special brakes and suspension, and capable of reaching a top speed of 316 km/h.

The Z06 is the high performance version of the Corvette C6. And just recently it has beaten all of its rivals when it was judged as the “Best Fast Car for 2006” by the British TV motoring program Fifth Gear. The Chevy Corvette Z06 was imported to Australia and was converted to right-hand drive and re-engineered for Australian Design Rule compliance by Sunshine Coast Company Corvette Queensland as preparation for the upcoming exhibit which will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 2 to 11, 2007.

Tickets for the said show will cost $16 for adults plus a host of other ticket choices for families, concession holders and children. There would also be an advance show for those who want to take part of the private industry and media preview before the show is officially open for the public. For the said advance preview the price of the ticket is $50 and available only to patrons over 16 years old. A free light cocktail style breakfast and refreshments will be served throughout the morning’s schedule of new model unveilings.

There will also be a free public transport to the motor show for those visitors with tickets purchased from any Queensland Rail City Train station. The Brisbane Motor Show will showcase a string of expensive sports cars which is expected to become the most exciting part of the show. Aside from the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 show will also feature other remarkable sports cars such as Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Maserati GranSport and Bentley Continental GTC plus more which are to be announced during the show.

According to Motor Show Chairman Chris Beecham, “These rare and exotic sports cars are exactly what people expect to see at an international motor show and I’m certain that the Corvette will be a huge attraction for muscle car fans.” He also added, “It will be the first and probably the only occasion they will be assembled under one roof-they’re definitely not the kind of cars to be seen every day on the roads.”

To complement the worlds fastest sports cars, Brisbane Motor Show will also launch many new, less expensive models aimed at family motorists courtesy of various automakers such as BMW, Suzuki, Holden, Toyota, Audi, Sangyong, Renault, Proton, Saab, and Land Rover.

Sam Carson asked:

The Aston Martin DBR9 is manufactured by its racing division and has had significant success since its inception in 2005. The car is a GT1 racing class, and it got its name “DBR9″ from it predecessor the “DBR1″, which was the first winning car in the family that won the illustrious 1959 “24 Hours of LeMans” race and in that same year the “World Sportscar” title as well. The “DBR1″ derived its name from then-owner David Brown, which heralded the British back into the racing world once more. The Aston Martin DBR9 was first shown to a very select few of people back on 4th November 2004, at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, UK, and its debut race was the “12 Hours of Sebring” in March 2005.

The body of the car is designed in the conventional 2 door coupe style, and has its foundations rooted from the Aston Martin DB9 road car. And the DBR9 maintains some major attributes from DB9 road car, for example the heads of the V12 engine, the cylinder block, and the chassis, whereas everything else was made from scratch, and re-mastered for a superb enhancement of the car’s performance under tough competition scenarios. The structure of the DBR9 is made up of an aluminum roof, racing developed aluminum under-frame, which is derived from the DB9, a high strength steel roll cage, and every other body panel is made from a “carbon fibre composite”.

Aston Martin DBR9’s bodywork is a complete blending of maximum aerodynamic performance, and the ease of use of a typical road car, making movement on the track second nature to the car and driver, resulting in a comfort and normalcy to everything that the car is, also adding to the aerodynamics of the car. The designer’s aim was to make the entire bottom, from the rear diffuser to the front, of the DBR9 flat as possible, with a carbon wing attached to the backend in order to stimulate the rear down-force, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds.

The specifications of the car are a width of 1978mm; a length of 4767mm; a weight of 1100kg; a wheelbase of 2741mm; and a height of 1195mm. The engine of the DBR9 consists of a “48 valve Aston Martin Racing 6.0 litre V12″ fabricated from all alloy and a quad overhead camshaft, also the engine includes a “dry sump lubrication system”, and “2 x 31.2mm air restrictors”. The 6.0 litre V12 max power peaks at 600 bhp, and with a torque of over 700 N m. The suspension of the car incorporates a double wishbone at the front end and at the backend, with adaptable Koni dampers equipped with Eibach springs. The braking system is consists of both front and backend “Brembo six pot calipers” with “330mm diameter carbon discs”, all labouring around a set of “OZ forged magnesium wheels”. The arrangement and configuration of the DBR9 comprises a “mid front mounted engine”, rear wheel drive, and a “mid rear mounted transmission”. The transmission, Xtrac, is built up of “six speed sequential” that is longitudinally situated at the rear axle, and is put to use by a “four plated carbon clutch”. The incorporated ECU/Data system encompasses a “Pi Data system” with a “Pectel engine ECU”.

Recently, there were changes in regulations to assist race car drivers while racing the 2007 24 Hours of Le Mans race, and Prodrive added these changes unto the car e.g. the installation of air conditioning in the cockpit, and a heat resistant white roof inside. Both to assist the driver by ensuring temperatures are kept at a minimum, so performance levels from the driver would go up. However, the items previously responsible for cooling, the two hood vents, were removed because they were no longer needed.

The racing history of the DBR9 is a prominent one, with its major rival being Corvette Racing, where there as been some tough rivalries over the past 3 years. DBR9 debuted by winning the 2005 “12 Hours of Sebring” LMGT1 category. It came second behind Corvette in 2006 in both the 12 Hours and the 24-hour races, but had victories at Lime Rock Park, Mosport, Laguna Seca, Miller Motorsports Park, and Petit Le Mans. They finish second overall that year earning automatic entry into the 2007 24 hours of Le Mans, which they eventually won their class.

The 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show will be opening its door once again and General Motors Corporation promises to bring out the newest version of its popular Cadillac line, the Cadillac BLS Wagon. GM will also be bringing in other cars like the Cadillac BLS Flexpower, as well as the coupe and convertible versions of its Corvette C6. For fans of the major blockbuster movie hit “Transformers”, Ratchet - the Hummer Autobot will also appear in the show.

GM will be revealing the newest addition to its wagon line-up, the Cadillac BLS Wagon which, according to the US car maker, is another milestone for their car brand. The new wagon will be available in two new engines: the 2.0L Flexpower version which uses E85 for the eco-friendly and the turbo diesel engine handling a 132 kW (180 hp).

GM will also be showing another version of it CTS this year, the all-new 2008 Cadillac CTS. The automaker gave the new CTS more dramatic designs to bring out the best performance of the new car. However, the new version of CTS still sports the legendary design and lineage, only that GM gave the new car with more features that could boost its reputation as a luxury car brand. The car is available in two engine options: the 3.6L direct-injection V-6 VVT which is given more power this time as well as the 2.8L V-6. It will also come into a rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. Other versions will be the SRX, STS, XLR-V and the Cadillac Escalade.

There will be no new Saab model with new Saab fuel injectors in the Frankfurt show, but GM will be unveiling the new Corvette which features a huge 6.2L LS3 small-block V8 under its hood. Two versions of the Corvette will be in the Motor Show: the Coupe and the Convertible. Both feature the 321 kW or a 436 horsepower on a 586 Nm of torque. Kristian55 asked:

Hi. I’m a BMW fan, so I don’t know a lot about american cars and engines in general. But I find it funny that the m3 with the 3.2 Liter engine, beats the mighty Corvette c5 (exception Zo6) with a 5.7 liter engine. Thats weird if you ask me. 0-60 times are faster in a m3 and also top speed without the limiter. And the corvette has more HP, 345 vs. 333hp for the m3. The weight shouldn’t really be an issue on this one, because the m3 isn’t lightweight at all. Even at fuel economy and handling the m3 is superior, based on my research. Not to mention the interior. The m3 is amazing when it comes to the interior. I got a chance to drive one, and Its my favorite car.
I wanna see what some corvette fans have to say about this. Thanks
the only thing that I have to add to this, which was my main question actually is: How come a small engine (3.2 litre) can be compared to a 5.7 litre, and still be faster. I don’t understand this. This shows that chevy engines are very unefficient if you can achieve better results with a much smaller engine. I know the corvette is the national pride of america, and I like it too, but can’t compare it to the M3.

Top 10 Most Popular Cars by Sales

Filed Under corvette | Comments Off

Dan Bodrero asked:

How does one define a car in terms of popularity? Almost everyone has different standards on the matter. Some like their cars to remain with their stock color and accessories such as steering wheels, dash board covers, and floor mats and still be popular. On the other hand, cars that have been modified and have been fitted with custom seat covers, mufflers, and bright headlights also rake in a lot of popularity points.

For this year, here are the 10 most popular cars in terms of web visits and not the actual number of registered owners:

1.    Chevrolet Corvette – a high-performance sports car, boasting of a 430-horsepower V8 and impressive fuel efficient mechanism. The Chevrolet Corvette consumes 16 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon while on the highway. The interior details of the 2008 Chevy Corvette need no customization of its car seat covers, dashboard, and the likes. A total break from its predecessors’ interiors, the insides of this car is just magnificent.

2.    Ford Mustang - the Mustang remains to be one of the most popular cars from the long line of Ford models, offering a diversity of performance options: 2 body-styles, 4 trims, 2 engines, 2 transmissions and a wide list of additional features. Though the stock accessories are already pristine as they are, using customized interior details such as floor mats won’t hurt.

3.    Dodge Challenger – returning from 35-year absence from the road, the classic muscle car that is the 2008 Dodge Challenger is boosted by a 6.1-liter V8 engine pumping 425 horses. The Dodge Challenger also prides itself with Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation, and Keyless starting capability.

4.    BMW M3 – running for the first time on a 414 HP/ V8 engine, this car comes in sedan, coupe, and convertible types. The car also comes in different stock colors. Speaking of colors, one can mix and match with its posh interiors, starting with the dashboard and car seat covers. The transmission is also a thing of beauty, one can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission, or a new 7-speed M Double-Clutch transmission with Drivelogic.

5.    Porsche 911 – with a horse power numbering to 480 and a sleek exterior design and metallic finish, who would not want to be behind this car’s steering wheel? A true stunner, the Porsche 911 can burst to 60 mph in a matter of 3.7 seconds. Speaking of metallic finish, one can tweak the seats and sport a set of metallic custom seat covers.

6.    Mitsubishi Eclipse – the sporty coupe from Mitsubishi, the Eclipse has evolved from its predecessors in terms of style and shape. This car blitzes on a 3.8-liter V6 that creates 265 horsepower to drive the front wheels.

7.    Lamborghini Gallardo – a two-seater on a V10 engine, this model is Lamborghini’s best-selling model. What makes this car so desirable? It possesses an impressive 560 horsepower.

8.    Nissan 350Z – launched in 2003 but was not remodeled since then, the Z car from Nissan is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 306-horsepower. The Nissan 350Z comes in coupe or convertible.

9.    Mazda MX-5 Miata – a further advancement from its 1989 forefather, the 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata boasts of quick steering, easy handling, and a sporty physique. Now available in the convertible type, no doubt this model will sell like pancakes.

10.    Nissan GT-R  – running on 480 horsepower, the Nissan GT-R is an all-wheel drive coupe that can perform exceptionally well on almost all types of surface. With a top speed of 200 mph, yet meeting ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) standards, this car is truly one for the environment. Another thing, the Nissan GT-R can achieve 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
