Paul Fitzgerald asked:

Las Vegas has one of the largest car rental industry in the United States and the car choices are absolutely limitless. Exotic car rentals in Las Vegas have wide selections of limousines, opulent sedans and SUVs that you can choose from. But luxury cars are not the only ones that can be had in this city, there are also classic car rentals in Vegas.

What are classic car rentals? Classic car rentals are establishments that leases tribute versions of vintage cars and even high-end authentic ones. Just imagine rolling down the Las Vegas Strip on a Rolls Royce or vintage Corvettes and pull over the driveways of the city’s magnificent hotels and casinos.

Many people flock to Vegas, being drawn in by the glamor and extravagance that has become synonymous to the city itself. The first thing that comes to mind whenever Vegas is mentioned, is the the colossal hotels that houses thousands of lavish rooms and equally vast and deluxe gambling halls that have brought Las Vegas the fame and popularity that it has been basking in for years.

And what would be more sensational than cruising around in one of the limousines you can conveniently lease from any of the several exotic car rentals in Las Vegas. Then of course, there are a great number of noteworthy events and highly-esteemed shows that can only be witnessed in this magnificent city. These shows have become one of the greatest factors that attracts non-gambling tourists, who crowds the Last Vegas Strip whole year round. And what can be more amazing than driving a vintage car leased from the classic car rentals in Las Vegas to make a stunning appearance in a wedding celebration or a special gala affair.

Vegas is one of the cities that thrive in the influx of extravagant people, thus, it has earned the title of being the Entertainment Capital of the World. It is no wonder that events of all sorts happen with an absolute frequency that continually lures people of any race and disposition. The city is a refuge for people who want to have a taste of the finer things, no matter how temporary or short-lived it may be.

You can have a one-day glamorous stint by getting a room in one of the hotels in the strip and then booking a deluxe ride from one of the numerous exotic car rentals in Vegas for an intimate tour of the city. But if you’re one to prefer renting something along the lines of an authentic 1955 Ford Thunderbird for driving to the surrounding rugged outdoors of Nevada, then you should get busy looking for your desired vintage ride in one of the classic car rentals. Las Vegas is a place where the real and the dream world meet.

Wendell and Charmayne Vannatter asked:

Most people never really sit down and ask themselves, “How do I want to live my life?” “What kind of a house do I want to live in?” “What kind of car do I want to drive?” And the list can go on and on! How many people have really done that? Most people believe that those things will just come to them if they work hard. Why do they think that? Because they’ve been taught a lie! Have you ever really sat down and asked yourself any of these questions? To truly understand what I’m saying we need to backtrack a little.

So let’s ask ourselves this one question. What were we taught as children about jobs, work and careers, and most of all, success and education? I can sum it up in one statement, “Go to school, get a good education, get a good job and you will be successful!” WRONG! Now just wait a second before you write me off and click off this page!!! Let’s take a good honest look at what I’ve just said. Let’s look at the masses of Americans today. 95 to 97 percent of Americans today are broke. What do I mean by broke? They are just barely making it, especially in today’s economy. If they lost their jobs today, they would be on the street in less than 3 months time. Most people are in tremendous credit card debt. The last statistic I read, most Americans have seven credit cards, and all of them maxed out! Many Americans have over $100,000 in just credit card debt! Just credit card debt! Another statistic. 85 percent of college graduates never get a job in the field of their degree. And how much did they pay for that degree? Oh, and they have that debt to pay back too! I had a wise business friend once tell me, ” Wendell, the word job is just an acronym, it means Just Over Broke!” I took that to heart. I noticed in my own life, a job just barely made the bills! But that’s what we were taught in school, get a good education, then get a good job and we will be successful! It’s not working today. But it never really was supposed to work. Now, before you judge me as someone totally against education, hear me out. I’m really not. I think education is a wonderful thing! In fact, I think a person should always be learning. I think education is an ongoing, lifetime process. I believe education for educations sake is a good thing. We need to ask ourselves, why we were taught this. Why were we told to get a good education to get a job if it’s not going to bring us to financial independence? We need to backtrack a little further!

When this Country was founded, people were taught to work for themselves, to start their own business! They were taught, “If you want to be successful and financially independent, you have to have your own business.” People came to this Country from all over the world to be free! To have their own business! NOT TO WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE! They wanted to be free. Remember that 95 to 97 percent number in the previous paragraph? It has another fact tied to it too. 95 to 97 percent of Americans today WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE! They don’t own their own business, they have jobs. 150 years ago, that number was reversed. 95 to 97 percent of Americans owned their own business and only 3 to 5 percent worked for someone else. What changed? Around the turn of the last century America went through what was called the industrial revolution. Huge companies came into existence. They needed one crucial component to operate: EMPLOYEES! The government instituted the corporation status for tax purposes with these huge companies. And at the same time was the beginning of the State and Federal involvement in the school systems. They now had an endless supply of employees! The schools started teaching, “Get a good education, get a good job with a good company and you will be successful!”

Is it starting to make sense to you now?

We were never taught in school, NEVER, to go out and start our own business! We were never taught to design our life and then create an income stream to support that lifestyle. Were you ever asked in school those first questions I asked? “How do you want to live your life?” “What kind of house do you want to live in?” “Do you want to drive a Porsche, or Corvette?” “Do you want to have a second home in the Cayman Islands?” Well if you want those things, don’t get a job at McDonalds! You will need a little more income then what they provide! Have you noticed in life, that the people with that kind of lifestyle are usually business owners? Well, I’m here to tell you, THAT YOU CAN HAVE THAT KIND OF LIFESTYLE TOO! You just need to be in business for yourself. REMEMBER: An employer will only pay you what it costs to replace you! To achieve financial independence, you must have your own business!

What do you have to do to have your own business? Really, it’s quite simple. First, you have to believe that you can have more in life. You have to believe that you deserve more in life then what you have. You have to believe!! It may sound simple, even foolish, but you need to talk to yourself, out loud, and tell yourself that you can, you will succeed! Tell yourself that you deserve more in life then what you currently have. Keep telling yourself until, without a shadow of a doubt, YOU BELIEVE IT! Remember: “Whatsoever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it will achieve!” The mind is a powerful thing, it all starts with believing!

Second, you need to have a burning desire to have more in life then what you now have. Not just a want, but a burning desire! You need to think about it, dream about it, and always be talking about it. A willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve your dreams! You have to do more than what the masses are doing. Remember, 95 to 97 percent of the masses are failing! You have to do something different and do more than what the masses are doing to be successful. Write your dreams down on paper. Put them on your refrigerator door, where you will see them every day. Think about them day and night. Don’t be afraid to dream again! As children, we were not afraid to dream. What happened? We were either told to quit dreaming, or we realized that we would not achieve our dreams. So we just stopped dreaming. Well, I’m here to tell you, start dreaming again!!! Because you can achieve them. You just need the right vehicle. What do I mean by a vehicle? Your job or business is just a vehicle to get you where you want to go in life. You want to end up at financial independence. A job is just a very slow, failing way to get there. Owning your own profitable online business is the fast way to get there.

Ask yourself, right now, “How do I want to live?” I had to ask myself that same question some years ago. I had created several, successful “brick and mortar” businesses. By that I mean, conventional businesses. Buildings, products, employees, the usual type of business. I grew really tired of it. Don’t get me wrong, I was making very good money in many of them, but I had no time. I always had to be at the business. I had the headache of dealing with employees and all their problems. And it goes on and on! I finally sat down one day and just listed out the things I wanted from, what I called the perfect business. Now mind you, I had no idea what that business would be. I just knew what I wanted in a business after going through so many conventional businesses. It almost sounded like a “Pie in the sky” idea. I had no idea if anything like this existed. I just knew how I wanted to live my life and how I wanted to work my business. If it didn’t exist, I was just going to create it. I wanted to work from home, with no employees. I wanted it portable. To be able to work it from a beach in Hawaii if I wanted. A Profitable Online Business Idea is what I came up with.

There is an old saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” And that stands true today. I got online and started researching. I tried several things, and failed. Actually I tried quite a few things and failed. MLM’S, online scams you name it. But the key is, I kept trying. I didn’t give up. And I finally found a system that really works.

The Third thing you need is a successful, proven system that allows anyone to join right in and start with an equal footing, or level playing field. You can do as I did and go through the mine field and get blown up. And if you don’t give up, eventually you will find the right system that works for you. Or you can do it the easy way and learn from my mistakes. Wise people learn from other peoples mistakes. I know what you are thinking; I had the same thoughts myself. How do I tell the scams from the real thing? The system I chose had a standalone product that was worth more than the entry price alone. That in itself showed me their legitimacy. Everything I needed to operate my new business came with the entry price. And they are always there to help with any questions I may have. Many systems out there today claim to do this. But what you find out, like I did, was you need to purchase one more thing, then one more thing and on and on! You don’t have to re-invent the wheel, and you don’t have to be the first through the mine field. Sometimes it’s all just a matter of a step of faith. Choose to change your life today! Take a step of faith to get out of the rat race! It’s all waiting out there for you. You just need to take that first step. Believe that you can and then make a decision to DO something. Take action to change your life today!

Gregg Hall asked:

Many people with a fat wallet and a large bank account find themselves pondering what they can spend all their money on. Answer is a brand new sports car that can run the quarter mile in under 11 sec that’s what I would spend my money on.

Here is how to look at buying a brand new sports car, the good ways and the bad ways.

People who are obsessed with sports cars can find every reason why to buy one and every reason why they shouldn’t own one. Some of these pros and cons are listed below.

Sports cars not only fit the lifestyles of the rich and the famous but with every person with a bit of money and wanting to spend it on a nice ride. Many of these sports cars come stock with horsepower going over 500 some with way more like Lamborghinis or Porsches.

Small sporty convertibles will depreciate in value of the years and will get down to worth less then when you bought it. This really depends on the car; Corvettes from the sixties are worth way more now than they were then.

People who love spending all their money on these types of cars can choose between coupes or convertibles I personally like imports over anything I would take a Supra over a high end sports car today. That is a turbo Supra of course.

Most sports cars with an automatic transmission, like most other vehicles, will be worth more than the ones with a standard transmission. There are some exceptions with true sports cars and with sports cars that really need the ability to benefit from the torque that comes from using a manual transmission.

A lot of sports cars are prone to having problems, some of their parts are exotic and may be hard to find. When or if you buy a sports car never expect to get back what you paid for it. These cars are just another way to get around. Many become garage babies and are never run.

Of course driving an expensive sports car means paying a lot more for gas because they usually have the motor with a v-8 or v-12 which will get you about 15 miles to the gallon if you are lucky. This is also a good reason why more people should drive an import, good gas mileage plus high performance.

On the other side of the table though sports cars are already fast when you buy them, but like they say you can make a car as fast as your billfold is fat. That is the beauty of imports, over exotics. If you don’t have the money for a 300k factory vehicle you can always spend a tenth of that and have one probably just as fast with the right mechanic.

JJ Hendricks asked:

Copyright (c) 2007 JJ Hendricks

Hundreds of games were released for Playstation 2 during the console’s lifetime. There are so many, that it can be hard to choose which you want to buy for your collection. Below is a list of the ten must own games for the PS2 and why they should be in your collection.

10. Final Fantasy X - The first Final Fantasy game on Playstation 2 successfully evolves the best selling RPG franchise. FFX has a very deep battle system with even more complex stat upgrades. Your characters can literally take on hundreds of combinations of skills and abilities.

9. Guitar Hero - Live your rock and roll dreams in Guitar Hero. Use a real guitar controller to play all your favorite rock ballads and guitar solos. Hours of songs to play, multiple difficulty levels for even master players, and a song list with tons of classics. This game is great for casual players because it is so easy to pick up, but will keep you coming back with the steady increase in difficulty.

8. Katamari Damacy - A very strange premise, but very fun game. Roll a ball around a level. Smaller objects get stuck to the ball making it bigger, then you can roll over bigger objects. You have to grow your ball to a certain size to clear every level. Tons of replayability, random and funny cut-scenes, and solid game play make this a very unique but great game for the Playstation 2.

7. Ico - The game didn’t sell very well, but has great story, good puzzle design, and environments that make you forget you are playing a game sometimes. You play as a boy who is destined to be sacrificed to appease the Gods. He must make his way through the world and solve puzzles or face his grim fate.

6. Kingdom Hearts - Square Enix combines the Final Fantasy and Disney characters into one role playing adventure. You play as Sora but fight along side Donald and Goofy and meet Ariel, Aladdin, and other great Disney characters along the way. Kingdom Hearts is great for RPG fans and fun for Disney fans too. You will love all the cameos from the Disney movies and cartoons.

5. Metal Gear Solid 2 - The sequel to Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation. Play as Solid Snake as tries to stop a resistance group from gaining control of a high-tech weapon. Unlike other action games, you have to use stealth and planning to get through the game. You can just kill everything. In-depth story and great cinematics help solidify its place in the top ten.

4. Grand Theft Auto III - The smash hit that went on to create it’s own genre. In GTA 3, you can do almost anything you want. Want to follow the story, go ahead. Just want to steal cars and get into police chases, you can do that too. It led to multiple sequels and countless copycat games and helped spark the massive success of the Playstation 2 during its first year.

3. Resident Evil 4 - Originally released as a Gamecube game, Resident Evil 4 for Playstation 2 has all the same features plus more levels. Its an action packed, heart pounding horror game as Leon tries to save the President’s daughter. With a 95% review score from gamerankings.com it is the best reviewed PS2 game of all time.

2. Gran Turismo 3 - Hands down the best racing simulator. Gran Turismo 3 is a realistic racing game with real cars, real tracks, and real life attributes for all of them. Racing a VW Bug will feel different than racing a Corvette. Different accelleration, speed, and handling for each car and track. And I didn’t even mention the impressive graphics yet. If you love cars, this is the best racing game you can get.

1. God of War - Great graphics, epic story, nearly perfect controls. This is the best game on Playstation 2 and one of the better games released the past generation. Play as Kratos as he makes his way through ancient Greece fighting mythological creatures and using his fallen foes powers to vanquish future enemies. A best seller, highly reviewed, and all around great game.

If any of these games aren’t in your Playstation 2 collection you should buy them. All ten games of these games are great gaming experiences that every gamer should experience.

Harry Rockwell asked:

The Chevrolet Camaro was a compact car introduced in North America by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors at the start of the 1967 model year as competition for the Ford Mustang.

Although it was technically a compact (by the standards of the time), the Camaro, like the entire class of Mustang competitiors, was soon known as a pony car.

Though the car’s name was contrived with no meaning, General Motors researchers found the word in a French dictionary as a slang term for “friend” or “companion.” Ford Motor Company researchers discovered other definitions, including “a shrimp-like creature” and an arcane term for “loose bowels”! In some automotive periodicals before official release, it was code-named “Panther”.

Four distinct generations of the car were produced.

Generation 1

1967 Sharing mechanicals with the upcoming 1968 Chevrolet Nova, the Camaro featured unibody structure. Chevrolet offered the car in only two body styles, a coupe and convertible. Almost 80 factory and 40 dealer options including three main packages were avaible.

* RS Package included many cosmetic changes such as RS badging, hidden headlights, blacked out grill, revised taillights and interior trims.

* SS Package included modified 5.7 L (350 in³) V8 engine (first 350 in³ engine ever offered by Chevrolet), also L35 396 in³ “big block” was avaible. SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping and blacked out grill. It was possible to order both - RS and SS packages to receive RS/SS Camaro. In 1967 Camaro RS/SS Convertible Camaro with 396 in³ engine paced the Indianapolis 500 race.

* Z28 option code was introduced in 1966. This option package wasn’t mentioned in any sales literature so was unknown by most of the buyers. The only way to order Z28 package was to order base Camaro with Z28 option, front disc brakes, power steering and Muncie 4-speed transmission.

Z28 package featured unique 302 in³ “small block” engine, designed specifically to compete in the Club of America Trans Am racing series (which required engines smaller than 305 in³ and public availablity of the car).

Advertised power of this engine was listed at 290 hp (216 kW) while actual dyno readings rated it at 360 to 400 hp (269 to 298 kW). Z28 also came with upgraded suspension and racing stripes on the hood. It was possible to combine Z28 package with RS package. Only 602 Z28’s were sold.

Generation 2

The larger second-generation Camaro featured an all-new sleek body and improved suspension. The 1970-1/2 Camaro debuted as a 2+2 coupe; no convertible was offered and would not appear again until well into the third generation.

Most of the engine and drivetrain components were carried over from 1969 with the exception of the 230 in³ (3.8 L) six cylinder — the base engine was now the 250 in³ (4.1 L) six rated at 155 hp (116 kW).

The top performing motor was a L-78 396 in³ (6.5 L) V8 rated at 375 hp (280 kW). (Starting in 1970, the 396 in³ big block V8’s actually displaced 402 in³ (6.6 L), yet Chevrolet chose to retain the 396 badging.) Two 454 in³ (7.4 L) engines - the LS-6 and LS-7 - were listed on early specification sheets but never made it into production.

Besides the base model, buyers could select the “Rally Sport” option with a distinctive front nose and bumper, a “Super Sport” package, and the “Z-28 Special Performance Package” featuring a new high-performance 360 hp (268 kW) 350 in³ (5.7 L) cid V8. 1972

The 1972 Camaro suffered two major setbacks. A UAW strike at a GM assembly plant in Ohio disrupted production for 174 days, and 1100 Camaros had to be scrapped because they did not meet 1973 Federal bumper safety standards.

Some at GM seriously considered dropping the Camaro and Firebird altogether, while others were convinced the models remained marketable. The latter group eventually convinced those in favor of dropping the F Cars to reconsider, and Chevrolet would go on to produce 68,656 Camaros in 1972, the lowest production numbers for any model year.

Generation 3 1982

The 1982 model introduced the first Camaros with factory fuel injection, four-speed automatic transmissions (three-speed on the earlier models), five-speed manual transmissions (four-speed manual transmissions in 1982, and some 83-84 models), 15 or 16-inch rims, hatchback body style, and even a four-cylinder engine for a brief period (due to concerns over fuel economy).

The Camaro Z28 was Motor Trend magazine’s Car of the Year for 1982.

1985

In 1985 Chevrolet introduced a new Camaro model - the famous IROC-Z, called after popular racing series. IROC-Z Camaro featured upgraded suspension, special decal package and Tuned Port Injection system taken from the Chevrolet_Corvette Third generation Camaros also had a suspension system that was more capable in corners than the previous generation.

The Camaro IROC-Z was on Car and Driver magazine’s Ten Best list for 1985.

Engines

* 1978-1981 5.7 L (350 in³) Small-Block V8 * 1982-1985 2.5 L (151 in³) Iron Duke L4 * 1982-1984 2.8 L (173 in³) LC1 V6 * 1985-1989 2.8 L (173 in³) LB8 V6 * 1990-1992 3.1 L (191 in³) 60 Gen II V6 * 1982-1992 5.0 L (305 in³) Small-Block V8 * 1985-1992 5.7 L (350 in³) Small-Block V8

Generation 4 1993

1993 began the fourth and last generation of Camaros, lasting through the 2002 model year. Production of the fourth and final generation was moved from GM’s Van Nuys, California assembly plant to one in Ste. Therese, Quebec in 1993.

Though the car would no longer be produced in the US, the new design which incorporated lightweight plastic body panels over a steel space frame, and a better suspension, further improved upon the Camaro line.

From 1993 to 1997 the Camaro was available with the LT-1 engine, the same Generation II small block V8 used in the Corvette, although in slightly de-tuned form.

In 1996, the long-discontinued “SS” option was resurrected and in 1998, the all-new LS-1 engine Generation III small block was offered on the SS and Z28 Camaros, marking the end of the Generation I small block V8 that had its roots in Chevrolet’s 265 in³ engine of 1955. Unfortunately, sales were below expectations, and production of the Camaro ceased in 2002. 1998

1998 saw a new head light design for the Camaro. The new design removed the previous recessed-light design present in the 1982-1997 Camaros. The faux air intakes on the hood were also eliminated. In addition the LT1 engine was removed and instead an LS1 in its place. Engines

* 1993-1995 3.4 L (208 in³) 60 Gen III V6 * 1995-2002 3.8 L (231 in³) 3800 Series II V6 * 1993-1997 5.7 L (350 in³) LT1 V8 * 1998-2002 5.7 L (350 in³) LS1 V8

2002 2002 marked the last year of the Chevrolet Camaro and was also the 35th anniversary for the Camaro. This milestone was celebrated with a special anniversary car modified from the factory by SLP. The anniversary package was only available on the SS (Super Sport).

Engine modifications were available in addition to the 325 hp (242 kW) engine which all Super Sports produce. Silver racing stripes down the hood and trunk lid made the car more noticeable than ever—especially against the Bright Rally Red paint (the only color available with the anniversary package).

The car also had the slogan attached to it “Leave a Lasting ImpreSSion” and had the logo embroidered in the seats. The car was only available as a convertible or with T-Tops. 3,000 Camaros with the anniversary package were produced for the United States and 152 for Canada.

Though production Camaros were never as fast as the flagship Corvette, the car cost less than half as much and was easily modified. If its frequent inclusion in automotive enthusiast magazines is any indication, the Chevy Camaro is one of the most popular cars for modification in the automotive history.

Throughout its history, the Camaro shared its internal body and major components with a sister car - the Pontiac Firebird.

John Hewitt asked:

The Orkney Islands, location of Scapa Flow a natural harbour since the days of the Norse invaders, more recently a base for the Royal Navy, The final resting place for the remains of the German High Seas Fleet and the destination for this years Selby Aquanauts diving expedition.

The story starts at the beginning of the twentieth century when Germany envious of the colonies of her European neighbours and the wealth they are bringing decided to build a navy to match that of the British Royal Navy, at the time the most powerful in the world and protector of the biggest empire the world has known. With the Royal Navy as her target Germany started the first arms race of the 20th century.

The Royal Navy’s policy at this time was to be able to outfight and outgun the 2nd and 3rd navies in the world combined so no two countries could form an alliance to defeat Britain and when Germany started their building Britain took a close interest.

Since Britain was always more of a maritime nation than Germany the infrastructure was in place to build ships at will so this was a race Germany was destined to lose, especially when Britain brought out the first of a new class of warship, "the Dreadnought" larger and more powerful than any war ship ever built it gave its name to a new class of ships.

As the great war started Germany’s naval policy was to shell Eastern towns of England to tempt the Royal Navy out and take them out individually. This policy never worked as, Germany, always nervous of what was over the horizon, tended to hit and run so the two powerful navies played a game of cat and mouse around the North Sea, Each wanting to meet in battle, but nervous of the power of their adversaries, until May 1916. Both fleets were out in force when a Danish merchant ship steamed past on the horizen and both navies sent a detachment to investigate. The British ships were met by an outnumbering force of the German "High Seas" fleet so turned and lead the Germans in a running battle onto the guns of the rapidly advancing dreadnoughts of the "Grand Fleet". As darkness fell neither side could claim a definite victory. The Royal Navy had lost more ships but this was down to lighter armour to keep the ships faster and more manouverable. Most of the German ships had sustained damage that would have sunk a British ship so come the morning the German fleet had fled to harbour for repairs, many of them just floating hulks.

The following day the "Grand Fleet" was back at sea and the "High Seas Fleet" was blockaded in port never to take to the seas in force for the remainder of the war.

As the war came to an end the once proud German navy was escorted to internment at Scapa Flow where in a final defiant act they scuttled 74 of their own ships. Some were saved, others beached and during the 20’s and early 30’s a massive salvage operation took part and many of the ships were salvaged for scrap, but, with the onset of the second world war this came to a stop, and then, in 1945 when W.W.2 ended there was no shortage of scrap iron so the remaining 14 ship were left to rest.

The Dive Trip

Sailing South from our base at Stromness on the mainland of Orkney we pass the brooding high hills of Hoy on our right and as we head slightly east into the calm waters of Scapa Flow the islands part. In the distance we can see the low mounds of Burray, Flotta,Holm, Fara and Ronaldsay. Hoy by the way got its name because it’s the hoyest island in the Orkneys, the Vikings either had a dry sense of humour or were not very imaginative with name giving. It’s a glorious day, the sun glistening on the blue green water ahead. It’s a forty minute trip out to the wreck we are diving today. There is no rush to get our equipment together so during the next half hour the usual leg pulling and mickey taking goes on. During this time most of the divers have brought their gear up from the drying room where it was hung up last night and are starting to assemble it. A number of jobs need to be done, making sure you got a good air fill yesterday and for the majority of divers aboard analysing the Nitrox fill (Nitrox is an oxygen enriched air which has recently become the gas of choice for most responsible and suitably qualified divers) Because the boat was full of Yorkshire folk there was of course the tight wad who used air all week because it was free, my nitrox bill for the week was £19.50 which I though was good value especially when it was increasing my diving time by about 30%.

We are diving on the "Brummer" today and with ten minutes to go the skipper Robert shouts down from the wheelhouse to galvanise us into action.

We arrive at the wreck site kitted up and ready to go and as Robert slows down we step off into the water. The wreck is bouyed so meeting my buddy at the bouy we exchange signals and begin our descent. Natural light fades as we go deeper until we see a dark shape below in the gloom. Landing on the deck along a row of empty portholes we exchange O.K.signals, make adjustments to our bouyancy and glide over the side. The Brummer lays on her side and we intend finning along the deck which is now vertical at our side.Descending to the seabed we look up and the wreck is silhouetted in the greenyblue glow from above. Ascending slightly we set off along the deck our torches picking out various features until, passing the anchor chain capstans we come to the muzzle of a 5.9" gun, gliding along the barrel and round the protective shield we come to the conning tower, the command centre when in battle, the access door behind the conning tower is missing so we cautiously enter, disturbed silt threatens our vision so leaving we come to the bridge where empty windows still look out for the battle that will never come. Beyond that broken rigging, sagging handrails and dangling wires attest to her age. Checking our computers and contents gauges 35 minutes later we decide that’s it for this dive and retrace our route to the line. The sunlight shines down to meet us as we make our ascent and after pausing at 6 metres for a safety stop we finally emerge into the morning sun. James on the bridge is waiting to exchange O.K. signs with us and soon Robert is coming to pick us up. Another great dive. Once everyone is back on board we’re off to Lyness where the naval base used to be to visit the museum and have a bowl of soup in the NAAFI. By the time we return about an hour and a half later James is just finishing charging up our cylinders and Robert is flat out on the upper deck asleep in the sun. Woken by our return he soon has James casting off and it’s away to our second dive.

T

he Second dive brings a choice of shallower dives. There are the blockships sunk in the sounds between the islands to keep out the U boats, both second and first world wars,a dive boat, bottle dives where the rubbish of years has been dumped over the side (I found a glazed stoneware preserve jar similar to one in the Stromness museum, others found an assortment of interesting old bottles) and the F2 a German escort boat similar to the R.N. corvettes. This was taken in war reparation but sunk, believed to have sprung a severe leak soon after and was not considered worth lifting. This is the one we’ll choose. An interesting point of this wreck is that it was sold for salvage in 1968 and during salvage a gale blew up and the salvage barge with all the salvaged parts went down yet again. The wreck lies in only 16 metres at high water and rises to within 7 metres of the surface. The hull is broken in two with the stern upright and the remainder on its port side. We drop down onto the barge and explore the salvaged parts for a while then follow the weed covered line to the F2 where we seem to be a source of interest to a number of wrasse about a foot long that follow us around the wreck. Like all the wrecks it is covered with life. Apart from the many types of fish we see the odd seal. There are numerious specimens of the tiny Devonshire cup coral, many types of anemone including the large plumose, many types of starfish including some huge sunstars over a foot across and on all the overhangs and superstructure grow dead men’s fingers, a soft coral. There are also many sponges, sea squirts and sea urchins and of course crabs, lobsters and shellfish Many of the spider crabs grow a garden of weed on their backs so sometimes while near the seabed a clump of weed suddenly walks away.

As we leave the break in the hull behind we need to ascend slightly to go over to the other side to reach the superstructure where we find the single mast laid on the seabed the searchlight platform still recognisable. The forward gun is intact and the starboard anchor chain leads out from the bow. Being a smaller ship at shallower depth we are able to cover the whole wreck in one dive and still find time to collect a bag of scallops for tonights meal. Lovely fried in garlic butter.

Other wrecks dived on the trip are Kronprinz Wilhelm, Karlsruhe, Koln, Dresden, Gobernador Bories and the Tabarka. The latter being a blockship in Burra sound. Formerly a merchant ship she lies upside down and being in a place of strong tides is swept clean and consequently there is no silt inside to disturb. Plates are missing but the construction seems sound so we enter. Passing through the engine room torches are needed as without them it’s pitch black. Three boilers lay in a row on the bottom and underneath one is a large lobster (tonights tea) While Christine my buddy is trying to tease it out I nipped the back of her leg, After she jumped I got a punch for my troubles. Passing through the dark engine room we see two more torch beams coming towards us and two more from our club pass by exchanging O.K.s on the way.

This was the last dive and so with heavy hearts and fond memories of a fantastic week of diving we head back to Stromness to pack ready for the long drive home tomorrow.

Mike asked:

Ok so I inherited a 1975 corvette that used to run great I was told until one day it went in the garage and was not started for over 10 years. What should I do to get it running again and is it possible to do so with only minor repairs such as a new battery etc.
