I need to do the following on my 1990 Corvette to check for a bad alternator but im unsure of some things?

asked:
I need to:1) Disconnect the alternator from the battery
2) Unfasten the charging output wire
3) Unplug the field connection plug on the side of the alternator
4) Start my Corvette & see how it runs off the battery alone.
Where would the things mentioned in steps 1-3 be located?
