asked:

I need to:1) Disconnect the alternator from the battery

2) Unfasten the charging output wire

3) Unplug the field connection plug on the side of the alternator

4) Start my Corvette & see how it runs off the battery alone.

Where would the things mentioned in steps 1-3 be located?

I’ve never heard this procedure and I don’t see how what you can tell from that. The car will run for a while if your battery is good and that’s all it will show.

Best way to see if the alternator is working is to start the car and put a volt meter across the battery terminals, the reading should be between 13V and 14.7V

If anyone tells you to take off the battery cable while the car is running, tell them the car isn’t old enough and it will probably get damaged.

If you cant get hold of a volt meter.
start the car then, carefully and quickly pull off one of the ht (spark plug) leads. if the engine stops, then the alternator is going.
i prefer the volt meter though

DON’T DO IT!!! If car will run, get to an AUtozone for a free charging system test. You can start by removing and TOTALLY charging the battery. YOu can cause expensive damage to your computers if you try to run the car on the battery alone!!! GOOD LUCK!!
